The Menorah Choir’s reputation has been growing in recent years and it is now acknowledged to be a top synagogue choir.
The repertoire of the choir is extensive. It includes traditional tunes, both from the reform and from the orthodox treasure troves; Original, modern tunes set to the old texts and in performance, just about anything goes – Beatles, Cole Porter, Bacharach, Gershwin and more.
The 24 strong choir prides itself on the round and stirring sound it produces, which was beautifully enhanced by the fantastic acoustics at the Manchester Jewish Museum, where the CD was recorded. (At the time of the recording the Menorah congregation was homeless, as their wonderful new building was under construction, which is why the CD was recorded at the Jewish Museum. The new building, now standing proudly on the old ground, has wonderful acoustics all of its own and when the time comes to record a second CD, the result will surely be just as impressive).
Although the choir is an amateur choir, the CD fronts 12 soloists, all members of the choir.
