Ruti was born in Israel where she did her schooling and graduated from the Music Academy in Tel Aviv.
After completing her education Ruti was enlisted into the army where she became a music and drama teacher to immigrant children – olim chadashim – in the city of Be’er Sheva. As part of her teaching Ruti wrote musical plays for the children in her care and she has been writing ever since.
When she came to the UK with her British husband, Peter, Ruti continued writing and in spite of writing in a foreign language has had plays produced on the London fringe and a play produced by BBC Radio 4.
For over twenty years Ruti ran the choir of North Cheshire Jewish Primary School and under her baton the choir became a source of pride for the school and for the Jewish community at large.
In 2002 Ruti was asked by Rabbi Brian Fox to take on the choir of Menorah Synagogue (South Manchester Reform Congregation). Although at first she was not sure about this ‘assignment’, the match between Ruti and the choir has proven to be a very happy and successful one. The choir has been going from strength to strength and has gained a strong reputation in Manchester and beyond.
